What is Şeb-i Arus?
The origin of the word Şeb-i Arus actually means “wedding night”. The reason is that Hz. Mevlana Jalalauddin Rumi did not see death as a departure from this world, on the contrary, he characterized it as the day of reunion with Allah. Shab-i Arus, which is set out from this admirable point of view, does not mourn Mevlana’s death, on the contrary, it heralds Mevlana’s departure to reach his Lord.
When is Shab-i Arus?
Although the actual date of Şeb-i Arus, which is called the commemoration of Hz. Mevlana, is December 17, the celebrations start on December 7. In this week, called Mevlana week, many cultural Mevlana commemoration ceremonies and programs are organized.
