What is Mevlevi ?

Mevlevi, also known as the Mevlevi Order or the Whirling Dervishes, is a Sufi order that originated in the city of Konya, in present-day Turkey, in the 13th century. The Mevlevi Order was founded by the Sufi mystic and poet Jalaluddin Rumi, who is also known as Mevlana.

The Mevlevi Order is known for its unique form of worship, which involves the ritual of the “Sema” or whirling dance. During the Sema, the Mevlevi dervishes spin in a circular motion while wearing white robes and tall hats, symbolizing the spiritual journey towards enlightenment and union with God.

In addition to the Sema, the Mevlevi Order emphasizes the importance of self-discipline, love, and service to others as a path towards spiritual purification and closeness to God. The teachings of the Mevlevi Order have had a profound influence on Turkish culture and Islamic spirituality, and have spread throughout the world.
